Two-tailed Pasha Image credit: Neil Thompson |
Scientific name: Charaxes jasius
The Charaxes are tropical butterflies with many species in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite that, this butterfly is found in Europe but is limited to Mediterranean coastal areas, all the way from Portugal to Greece. The larval foodplant is the Strawberry Tree and where high densities of this occur, the butterfly can be quite abundant. There are two broods and the butterflies fly in late Spring and late Summer.
