Prevent stretch marks before they appear. If you are pregnant, moisturize your skin throughout the day. Rub cocoa butter or shea butter onto your stomach, buttocks, breasts and hips. Wear a maternity bra that offers good support. You can also use Vitamin A, E, and rose oil in an effort to prevent stretch marks from forming. You should also use these methods if you are weight lifting because that can also cause stretch marks. The same goes if you are rapidly losing or gaining weight for other reasons.

Start treating the affected skin as soon as you notice the appearance of stretch marks. Wheat germ oil can be effective in diminishing stretch marks that are just starting to appear. You can also try variations of vitamin C. Vitamin C promotes collagen production and is another method for treating new stretch marks. It is even more potent when it's combined with glycolic acid, which also supports collagen production. Retinoids, which are used to prevent wrinkles and acne, can also offer some help with stretch marks.(Warning! if you are pregnant do use Retinoids).

Eat healthy foods. Eat foods that are high in protein. Drink enough water to keep skin hydrated. Avoid foods that are high in unhealthy fats. They can be stored in the stomach and buttocks areas, causing swelling that can lead to stretch marks. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good for the skin and can enhance its appearance. Exercise can also help the skin maintain its elasticity. But if you are lifting weights, don't over do it because that will cause your muscles to expand faster and you could end up with stretch marks around your new muscles.
