South Korea, Japan reach landmark deal on WWII Korean Comfort Women

Credit/by:HYUNG-JIN KIM and FOSTER KLUG   Associated Press
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — An apology from Japan's prime minister and a pledge of more than $8 million sealed a breakthrough deal Monday in a decades-long impasse with South Korea over Korean women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during World War II.
The accord, which aims to resolve the emotional core of South Korea's grievances with its former colonial overlord, could begin to reverse decades of animosity and mistrust between the two thriving democracies, trade partners and staunch U.S. allies. It represents a shift for Tokyo's conservative government and a new willingness to compromise by previously wary Seoul.
A statement by both countries' foreign ministers said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe "expresses anew his most sincere apologies and remorse to all the women who underwent immeasurable and painful experiences and suffered incurable physical and psychological wounds as comfort women," the euphemistic name given the women.
Historians say tens of thousands of women from around Asia, many of them Korean, were sent to front-line military brothels to provide sex to Japanese soldiers.
It wasn't immediately clear if Abe would be issuing a separate written statement or if it would be directly delivered to the 46 surviving former Korean sex slaves, now in their 80s and 90s.
The language mirrored past expressions of remorse by other prime ministers, although it was seen by some in Seoul as an improvement on previous comments by Abe's hawkish government, which has been accused of whitewashing wartime atrocities.
Another deciding factor was that the 1 billion yen ($8.3 million) — to create a foundation to help provide support for the victims — came from the government, not private sources, something Tokyo has resisted in the past.
South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said Seoul considers the agreement "final and irreversible," as long as Japan faithfully follows through with its promises.
Later Monday, Abe called South Korean President Park Geun-hye and reiterated his apology. He said Tokyo would implement the deal and called the issue settled irreversibly. Park said she hoped the two countries will build mutual trust and open a new era in ties based on the agreement.
After phoning Park, Abe told reporters that the agreement was based on his commitment to stop future generations from having to repeatedly apologize.
"Japan and South Korea are now entering a new era," Abe said. "We should not drag this problem into the next generation."
Park issued a separate statement saying the deal was the result of her government's best efforts to resolve the sex slave issue, given its urgency. "Most of victims are at an advanced age and nine died this year alone," she said.
"I hope the mental pains of the elderly comfort women will be eased," Park said.
The initial reaction of former sex slaves was mixed. One woman said she would follow the government's lead, while another vowed to ignore the accord because Tokyo didn't consider the money to be formal compensation.
"Isn't it natural to make legal compensation if they commit a crime?" said Lee Yong-su, 88, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.
Some in Seoul saw the deal, while not perfect, as an important step forward.
"If we brushed aside this deal, the comfort women issue would remain unresolved forever," said Lee Won Deog, director of Institute of Japanese Studies at Seoul's Kookmin University. "Elderly women would die one by one; South Korea and Japan would engage in history wars and find it harder to improve ties."
Many South Koreans continue to feel bitterness over Japan's brutal colonial occupation of the Korean Peninsula from 1910 to 1945. But South Korean officials have also faced calls to improve ties with Japan, the world's No. 3 economy and a regional powerhouse, not least from U.S. officials eager for a strong united front against a rising China and North Korea's pursuit of nuclear-armed missiles that could target the American mainland.
Japan appeared emboldened to make the overture to Seoul after the first formal leaders' meeting between the neighbors in 3½ years, in November, and after South Korean courts recently acquitted a Japanese reporter charged with defaming Park and refused to review a complaint by a South Korean seeking individual compensation for Japan's forceful mobilization of workers during colonial days.

Function of Thyroid Gland,Causes,Disorder,Thyroid Tests and Thyroid Treatments

Potassium Iodide-uses,condtion it treats and side effect_health

Uses

Potassium iodide is used to loosen and break up mucus in the airways. This helps youcough up the mucus so you can breathe more easily if you have long-term lungproblems (e.g., asthmachronic bronchitisemphysema). This medication is known as an expectorant.
Potassium iodide is also used along with antithyroid medicines to prepare the thyroidgland for surgical removal, to treat certain overactive thyroid conditions (hyperthyroidism), and to protect the thyroid in a radiation exposure emergency. It works by shrinking the size of the thyroid gland and decreasing the amount of thyroid hormones produced.
In a radiation emergency, potassium iodide blocks only the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine, protecting it from damage and reducing the risk of thyroid cancer. Use this medication along with other emergency measures that will be recommended to you by public health and safety officials (e.g., finding safe shelter, evacuation, controlling food supply).
OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by yourhealth care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional.
This drug may also be used to treat a certain type of fungal skin infection(sporotrichosis).

How to use potassium iodide

Take this medication by mouth with a full glass of water (8 ounces or 240 milliliters) as directed by your doctor or public health and safety officials. To avoid stomach upset, take after meals or with food. Drink plenty of liquids with this medication unless otherwise directed. If you are taking the tablets, do not lie down for 10 minutes after taking this medication. If you are using the drops or liquid medication, use the dropper that comes with the bottle or a medication spoon/device to measure the correct dose. Liquid forms of this product may be mixed in water, milk, formula, or juice before taking. Do not use this medication if the solution turns brownish-yellow.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children, dosage is also based on age. Do not increase your dose, take it more often, or take it for longer than prescribed or recommended because of the increased risk of side effects.
In a radiation emergency, take this drug only when public health and safety officials tell you to do so. Read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with the medication. Start treatment as soon as possible for the best protection. Take this medication usually once every 24 hours. The length of treatment will be determined by public health and safety officials and depends on several factors (e.g., whether you continue to be exposed to the radiation, and whether you are pregnantbreast-feeding, or have a newborn baby). See also Precautions.
If so directed, use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.
Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Wealthy environmentalist Dougllas Tompkins dies in an accident

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Douglas Tompkins, a wealthy U.S. businessman and environmental activist who bought up large swaths of land in South America's Patagonia region with the aim to keep them pristine, has died. He was 72.
Tompkins died Tuesday from severe hypothermia in a kayaking accident in Chile, authorities said.
The Aysen health service said Tompkins, who was a co-founder of The North Face and Esprit clothing companies, was boating with five other foreigners when their kayaks capsized in a lake in the Patagonia region of southern Chile. Tompkins died in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Coyhaique, a town 1,700 kilometers (1,056 miles) south of Santiago.
"He had lost consciousness and wasn't breathing" when brought to the hospital by helicopter, Dr. Carlos Salazar told local television stations.
Chile's army said strong waves on General Carrerra Lake caused the group's kayaks to capsize. A military patrol boat rescued three of the boaters and a helicopter lifted out the other three, it said.
After retiring in 1989, Tompkins was active in conservation and environmentalism. He owned hundreds of thousands of hectares (acres) in Patagonia, a sparsely populated region of untamed rivers and other natural beauty that straddles southern Chile and Argentina. On his Chilean land, he created Pumalin Park, 290,000 hectares (716,606 acres) of forest, lakes and fjords stretching from the Andes to the Pacific.
"Doug was a passionate advocate for the environment," said The North Face in a statement. "His legacy of conservation will help ensure that there are outdoor spaces to be explored for generations to come."
Tompkins was one of the founders of The North Face, an activewear company that is now owned by VF Corp. of Greensboro, North Carolina. He also founded, with his wife, the Esprit clothing company.
An active outdoorsman, besides buying up land to preserve it, Tompkins also sometimes got involved in local environmental issues in Chile and Argentina. Many credit him with helping to raise consciousness about the toll that large man-made projects, such as dams, can have on ecosystems.
"For the environmental movement, not just in Chile but internationally, (Tompkins' death) is a huge loss," said Sara Larrain, a long-time friend of Tompkins who leads a Chilean environmental group. "This is somebody who put all his energy, all his fortune and his spirit in preserving ecosystems."

3 New Ways to Wear Fragrance and How to Test it

belcamshop.com
How to test a Fragrance?

Finding a fragrance that is right for you can only be achieved by testing it on your skin. Each person’s skin has its own smell, influenced by their body chemistry and diet, so a fragrance that is appealing on someone else may not smell the same on you.
Test a fragrance by applying it to your wrist or the bend of your arm. Wear it for a few hours to see how it will change over time. The initial odor when you apply a fragrance is referred to as the top note. This is the most obvious part of a fragrance and consists of the most volatile components. Citrus and green accords along with lighter fruits and herbs are usually present in the top notes.
Within a few minutes of application, the middle notes will unfold to reveal the body or what is referred to as the “heart” of the fragrance. The middle notes are usually heavier fruits, floral and spices.
The bottom notes are the foundation of a fragrance, the clinging impression that is left behind after the lighter notes fade. The bottom notes are responsible for a fragrance’s longevity. They can include woods, mosses, amber, vanilla and musk.
Ideally, you should not try more than 2 to 3 fragrances at the same time since your nose will become tired and have difficulty distinguishing between the different scents.
You may find that you prefer lighter, fresher fragrances for daytime use or when you are more active, and warmer, sensual, spicy or musk blends for evening wear. Whatever your preferences, you can develop a wardrobe of fragrances, a small indulgence which will allow you to express your unique personality!

If you're bored with your usual fragrance but you still love it, try these tricks to reinvent your signature scent.

1. Wear it sheer.
Spritz perfume sparingly in concentrated areas—you'll notice that it'll smell a bit different from how it usually does when you mist it all over your body. The scent is stronger, but not overpowering.

2. Amplify it in the shower.
Start with a lovely scented shower gel to give your skin a pleasant fragrance base. If you're feeling like a queen, pour a few drops of perfume in a bathtub filled with warm water and let your body absorb the wonderful notes.

3. Combine scents.
Mixing two different fragrances doesn't have to be complicated. If you want to revamp your scent, coat your skin with a scented body lotion or oil prior to a fragrance zest. Body moisturizers with powdery vanilla or coconut scents are fail-proof partners.

Things I learned while Blogging

1. It took me quite sometime for perfect combination of format, coloring, font and images/pictures with layout.

buzzblogger.com
2. The header and description must be interesting on your blog page

3. Place a wallpaper so that the viewer will remember that it is your blog page. If you have the same feature and color just like the others it becomes one of the many blogs in  bloggers' world.
.
4. When you post it is a must to post with picture to describe it. It is the first one they notice after your title or the other way around.

5 Your title to the post must be catchy. It catches the viewer's attention.

6. Try to post regularly. Whatever is convenient for you. It can be once a day, once a week, or once a month to the very  least because it may lose your momentum  as a blogger even to your regular viewer.

7. If it is your passion where you can find fulfillment....go ahead.

8. Blogging is a serious business. Be careful with what you post of picture or what you say in your blog.

9. If blogging will become your passion it will really take too much of your time and attention.

10. I used to have a lot of ads on my blog but in the end I removed them since even I get annoyed blocking and popping up to what I am reading. You choose the right place for your ads.

11. It will really takes time to get the number of views in your  blog when just starting give it time to get notice. You will learn more from blogging as time goes by.

13. Give credit where credit is due whether it is about an issue, article, author, news item, picture and video if the idea and concept is not originally yours. Be respectful with your sources and intellectual property.

My Note: Since this is my personal experience then I can write it......
