Parasites are single celled, small sized microorganisms that live on other living things including animals and humans to get food and survive. The branch of microbiology in which we study parasites is called as parasitology. The researchers and scientists who study parasites are termed as Parasitologists. Sometimes humans can suffer severe life threatening infections when they have a parasitic attack. Parasitic diseases could be caused mainly by Protozoa and Helminths.
Parasites are of two types such as ectoparasites and endoparasites. If a parasite lives on the surface of a host such as human is called as ectoparasite and if a parasite lives inside the living thing then it is termed as endoparasite. Usually parasitic diseases are caused by endoparasites.
