Microsoft: Windows 10 will be available on July 29

So, AMD CEO Lisa Su is right about Windows 10 launch timing after all; Microsoft has just announced that Windows 10 (for PCs and tablets) will be available on July 29.
In case you haven’t been the following the news, Windows 10 is a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 users. It features Cortana, a new browser called Microsoft Edge, the return of the Start menu, Windows Hello,Continuum, and more. Since Microsoft has moved to a Universal Windows Apps platform, many of the built-in apps are expected to be continuously updated even after launch.

Reserving your free Windows 10 upgrade

On July 29, you can get Windows 10 for PCs and tablets by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer mentioned above. If you purchase a new Windows 8.1 device between now and then, the Windows 10 upgrade will be available to you and many retail stores will upgrade your new device for you.
In fact, you can now reserve your free Windows 10 upgrade through a reservation process. In short, Microsoft is dropping a notification at the right end of users’ taskbars. Simply click on the icon and follow the steps to reserve your upgrade. (Read this walkthrough from Microsoft for more info.) Once the upgrade is available down the road, you’ll get another notification. Now, this upgrade process certainly seems easy enough, though we’re sure that some users would mistaken the unexpected notification as some sort of malware.
As reported earlier, other devices like phones, HoloLens, IoT, and Xbox One will get their own version of Windows 10 later in the year, according to their own schedules.
